Friends and Family

My Main Man and I moved to Ohio a year and a half ago.  Moving somewhere new is always hard.  Especially as adults.  Every time we move we have to start all over.  We have to find a new church.  We have to find a new grocery store.  We have to figure out how to get around a new grocery store.  We have to find a new gas station with the best deals on gas.  We have to find a new farmer's market to buy fresh produce.  All of these are hard to find.  However, the hardest for us to find is friends as amazing as the ones we had in North Carolina.  Where do adults go to find friends?

This weekend we had a few of those amazing friends from North Carolina visit us.  It was an amazing weekend.  Full of laughter.  The crescendo of laughter filled every corner of our house.  From the kitchen to the crib.  We laughed so hard we woke up Little Man at 11 pm.  He could not go back to sleep till 12:30 am because he knew we had started the party without him.  My house was filled with warmth and joy and friends.

Friends and family surround our tiny kitchen table.  Other games waiting to be played in the background.
This weekend was full of fattening, delicious and weird food.  I did not take pictures of this because we ate it up so fast.  We went to this restaurant called Tom + Chee http://www.tomandchee.com/.  It is a grilled cheese restaurant.   It is officially home of the "grilled cheese donut".  Which sounds pretty much like the grossest think ever.  However, it is not.  The restaurant's motto is "It will change your life."  Which I have to admit is true.  It didn't change my life like the Gospel, marriage or parenthood but I now know grilled cheese is better on a donut.

This weekend was full of happiness.  We could not get enough of each other.

Although we don't have the same quantity and depths of friendships here that we had in North Carolina, we have family here.  My cousin lives here as do Main Man's parents.  This weekend we got to celebrate Nana's birthday.  She turned 35 (*wink wink).  It is always such a blessing when we get to see Nana and Pawdy.  This trip we got to go out to eat.  It was blast.
I love the way the light is reflecting in this picture.  It makes the wine look like it is glowing.

All in all this weekend was a balm for our extroverted souls. We were busy entertaining and socializing all weekend.  This is not something we get to do all the time.  We know that it takes time to develop the depth of friendships.  We know that it takes time to find just the right people to be friends with.  We also know we have been extremely consumed with us (I mean we have been having a baby).  However, as we invest in our lives and friendships here, we treasure when we get time with dear friends and family.  Until the time that our lives are more firmly rooted here in Ohio, we will treasure our time as a family.

Soon our lives will be filled with soccer practice, school plays, other commitments, and just life.  Now our lives are simple.  Just the three of us.  No one calling to demand our time.  No one needing us to be somewhere.  They say treasure these moments.  So I will.
We will love chewing on bibs.

We will treasure our time of just us.  Daddy and son love.  Be still my soul.

We will treasure our time of exploring our world.  Where did your sock go, Little Man?  Oh my, I didn't even know I was missing one.
We will treasure these times and pray for God to provide for us great friends, who come close to what we have in NC, IL, IN, MD, MT, AZ, and around the world.  If only we could pack up our friends with us when we move and move everyone we love to the same place...wouldn't that be fabulous.
