Memorial Day

I was raised in a small suburb of Chicago.  Even though it was in the middle of all the suburban hub bub, it had a very small town feel.  There is  a homecoming parade which people come out to see.  There is a main street where there are picturesque antique shops.   The beach laps up to the shore just down the hill from main street.  I did not fully appreciate my small town while growing up there. I could not wait to get out and spread my wings and fly.  Now looking back I realize, in some ways I grew up in a Norman Rockwell painting.  Although I have no desire to ever move back there (winter there sucks) it was the perfect place to grow up. One of the fond memories I have is of memorial day.  There is a full out parade with the marching band, fire trucks, convertibles, etc.  We would try to make it every year.  I say try because the running joke in my family was, "We have to hurry, if we are late we will miss it."...

As I make the transition from full time stay at home mom to "full-time" working mom/"full-time" mom.  Life changes.  I find I spend the majority of my day preparing for the next day.  I drop my son off at day care at 6:40.  I head to work.  Work.  Work.  Pump so my son has food for the next day.  Work. Work. Work.  (Between the time of work I laugh (inside) at all the funny things that kindergarteners say.)  Pick Little Man up from day care (best part of the day).  Go home.  Clean bottles. Clean pump.  Make new bottles.  Fill bags with new diapers for Little Man tomorrow.  Make dinner.  (I won't say clean up dinner since Main Man does this.) Give Little Man a bath.  Put him to bed.  Climb into bed exhausted.  Then start all over again. Oh friends.  A wonderful trip to NC. Adventures without Daddy

Sometimes Main Man works on the weekend, this means that Little Man and I have hours to entertain our selves while we wai for Main Man to get home.  The nice thing is that on weekends Main Man is home early.  However, this weekend Main Man missed beautiful days.   The weather was perfect.  PURRFECT.  Plus, our Louisville Cardinals won big this weekend.  It was a beautiful weekend.  Little Man and I went out in search of swings and to get in long walk.  Swings were hard to find.  The long walk was not.  First we went to the bike trail in the next town, I thought I remembered swings there.  No cigar.  However, we got in a long walk. See that tree.  A few weeks after Little Man was born, the three of us went for a walk.  My c-section was still healing.  Oh it was such a painful walk.  My goal was to make it to that tree.  I walked what felt like miles, I am sure it was more like a quarter of a mile. ...
